The Loss of Professor M. A. R. Barker

MAR Barker 1929-2012

Minneapolis, Minnesota, March 16, 2012:  Professor Muhammad Abd-al-Rahman (MAR) Barker, known to his
friends as “Phil,” died peacefully in home hospice on March 16, 2012 with his wife Ambereen Barker at his side

I feel as if an old friend died who I never really got the chance to say what an impact he's had on my life. It really is a weird feeling.

I'm really truly & deeply upset. I feel as though a friend of mine just died. Seriously this is really hitting me as deeply as Mr.Gygax's death.  This is just aweful. What a blow to the rpg community. It really hasn't sunk in yet. I actively sought out this game & his advice. He was pretty nice guy & one very smart dungeon master from what I understand. This sucks.. Seriously this really sucks.. :(
Empire of The Petal Throne is a pretty personal game to me. How do actually articulate one of the games that you always reach for when writing or for inspiration. Jesus between this & Mobius's passing I feel like my imagination has been run over by a truck & then put into reverse backed over slowly.. I know celebrate the life & all that.. I can't actually comprehend that he's gone. What a nice person & what a great scholar. Excuse me.. This sucks hard & hurts deeply

I'm at a loss for words tonight. The world has truly lost another of our founding fathers in the hobby... The man's creations were incredible or are incredible. Profoundly sad evening. Wow.
What an amazing body of work he created, and it is a privilege to have been able to read and play in it.
RIP sir your creations will continue to be played for many, many years to come in my house.
