Commentary on The Mystery at Port Greely Adventure By Jeffrey Talanian Kickstarter For The Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea And Your Old School Campaigns

So the Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea kickstarter for Port Greely went live today and it looks wonderfully twisted and evil. This kickstarter is different for a few reasons and its already half funded. Jeff Talanian is an author with a proven track record for bringing home the sword and sorcery  goods to market. Now we've got The Mystery At Port Greely coming into the fold. This is an adventure based on  the "HP Lovecraft novella  The Shadow Over Innsmouth". But since this is the Astonishing Swordsmen And Sorcerers of Hyperborea line it will have that particular OSR sword and sorcery's twist on it. The adventure is going to be geared for the Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea rpg system but knowing Jeff's writing and design as I do, this adventure is going to have brand new twists and turns to it.According to the official blurb; "Until recently, the peculiar village of Port Greely was renowned as one of the most prolific exporters of crustaceans in the realm. Then, about three years ago, the Greely lobstermen severed all ties with outside partners. Subsequent attempts at renegotiation were shunned. More recently, a small group of Fishmongers’ Guild representatives from the City-State of Khromarium has gone missing in Port Greely, and answers have been less than forthcoming. At present, the guild seeks answers. They want to know what became of their representatives, and they wish to reestablish their lucrative partnership with the Port Greely lobstermen. Your party has been contracted to help resolve the mystery at Port Greely."

BACK THIS KICKSTARTER RIGHT HERE

There are a few things to remember about each and every adventure that has come out from North Wind Adventures. Each adventure adds in another puzzle piece to the Hyperborean hex world setting, these adventures are modular they form a greater picture of what happened to this world, and they tread a fine line between the author designer's vision and pay homage to the original source material often striking ways. There are nasty secrets in Port Greely and these are bubbling just below the surface of this adventure. The Kickstarter details look great and the artwork really strikes a cord with me as an AS&SH dungeon master.

The cartography and map details speak volumes about the quality, attention to detail, and much more that is going to be going into this adventure. I know that we're going to see coming into Port Greely but there's much more bubbling below the surface here. This art piece Greely Lobstermen by D. Teigeler and D. Bingham reveal several striking things about the The Mystery at Port Greely. The Hyperborean Deep Ones are going have their own unique Lovecraftian bits and pieces to them. There is sure to be brand new monsters, setting material, treasures and more to this one. This adventure is going to thread both the Lovecraftian and Hyperborean razor's edge quite nicely. Given the track record of what's come down the pike before this is one to be one very dangerous adventure.
The Mystery at Port Greely  by Jeffrey Talanian is a kickstarter that I think that patrons of the AS&SH label should back and given the quality of what we've seen so far this in my humble opinion is going to be a solid hit with some damn fine stretch goals to it. Get in on this sword and sorcery Kickstarter and you won't be disappointed with The Mystery at Port Greely.
